All My Love Things

While you know not to shop for a wedding dress until you’ve chosen a venue, it’s hard to wait! If anything screams “wedding” more than a dress, we're not sure what it is. Planning a shopping trip, however, can come with it’s own hurdles — and that's before you’ve even slipped on your first gown. One major question: Do you need to bring your future mother-in-law to the bridal salon as part of your entourage? Here’s a little advice from our experts for navigating this tricky situation.

Deciding who to take dress shopping with you is all about assembling a team (or picking a single person, if that’s more your style) that will be supportive, encouraging, maybe a little creative, and above all respectful of what you decide you really love. From family members to friends, narrowing it down can be tough, but know that having the right group of people by your side will make the experience that much more enjoyable.
That being said, inviting your future mother-in-law to join you also throws some politics into the mix. Of course, it would be fantastic if she fit the above criteria to a T. If she gets your style, will constructively ease you out of your comfort zone, and won’t put her wants and needs before yours (and if you get along, of course), then by all means invite her! But if you’re worried about whether she’ll impose her ideas a little too strongly or overstep her boundaries when it comes to this mother-daughter moment, you may want to opt to keep the group a little smaller and either invite her to your fittings or surprise her on your wedding day.
Speaking of mother-daughter moments, if you do decide to invite your mother-in-law along with you, talk to your mom about it first. If she’s been dreaming of this moment for as long as you have, she may not want to share it. But she also might be happy to share the experience. The bottom line, just make sure to have the conversation before any invitations are extended.

Loved Jess’ choice of perfume for her Big Day. She chose to wear ‘Mrs Wright’ a great decision for a Miss Hemmings who was about to become a Mrs Wright. Calm and collected, Jess enjoyed a morning of pampering, courtesy of the fabulous Tracy and Sasha Pallari. Tracy working her magic with hair and Sasha created a beautiful soft bridal look for fair skinned Jess.
It was so refreshing to see such a lovely family getting on so well. Jess’ mum and stepdad had invited Jess’ Dad and stepmum over to the house before the ceremony, where they spent the morning chatting and laughing as the girls got ready. So great seeing everyone getting on brilliantly, which is sadly often not the case when I photograph weddings of couples whose parents have separated.
Jess got ready just a hop skip and a jump from The Church of St Leonard in Shipham. And on such a beautiful day she decided that she would like to walk to the church. It tends to be little spontaneous decisions like these, that are the memories that really stick out for a couple in the future. Lovely to capture the bride and her Dad smiling as they greeted well wishers who had gathered at the Church entrance to see her arrival.
As members of The Shipham Players, Jess and Sam are used to having lots of people hear them speak. And they didn’t disappoint their congregation. Both had learnt their vows by heart, so they had a beautifully seamless ceremony. During their final hymn they kept looking at one another, wonderful to be able to capture moments like these, when a couple can’t keep their eyes off one another.
After a natural receiving line we captured a couple of pictures with parents in the grounds of the church. The gates were then tied, and the couple threw their loose change into the crowd as payment to be let out. Traditionally the coins are given to the children of the village who will gather (in some villages they still do) however with no extra children to be found, the newlyweds baby nephew, and the only child at the wedding, earnt himself about 62p.
Clevedon Hall looked great as always and Jess’ handmade touches were great. She had learnt to make soap especially to make favours and each guest received a bar of soap along with their ‘placecard’ that was their initals made out of scrabble tiles into keyrings. Thousands of paper flowers had also been folded to make centrepieces. The effect was bright, fresh and beautiful and I think every guest appreciated the effort that the couple had put in.
Highlight of my evening was definitely the Macarena. There is something almost magical about watching 40 grown adults dance in formation. ‘Eeeeey Macarena!’ A wonderful day Mr and Mrs Wright. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of it!

Blaire McColl, 30, married James Donald, 31, at St Brelade's Church, Jersey, in the Channel Islands, followed by a reception at her parents' house on 4th July 2015. She says:
St Brelade's Bay is a special place for us - it's our favourite beach and we spend a lot of time there. We married in its lovely 12th-century church made of stones (and even a few shells) taken from the beach.
Luckily for me, there was no excuse not to have a bespoke dress for my wedding - I'm the international brand director at Jenny Packham. One day at a breakfast meeting, Jenny handed me a folder with a sketch of the wedding dress she thought might suit me, and it wasperfect.
James and I were overwhelmed by how much everyone helped - my mum was our wedding planner; my dad and brother transformed the garden, and my nana collected bud vases and candlesticks from local charity shops for our decor.
Our dream of an al fresco wedding came true - it was the hottest weekend of the year, so we were able to have all the sides of the marquee up for everyone to enjoy the views of the garden.
For the day after the wedding, James's parents organised a barbecue on the beach - it was the ideal way to end the weekend. We had grilled seafood, leftover wedding cake and Jersey ice cream, washed down with rosé and bloody Marys.

My top tip: Take your time when you walk down the aisle. It's such a special moment and only happens once.

A royal wedding wouldn't be complete without a princess-worthy wedding gown. And while Kate Middleton's Alexander McQueen confection is a look we'll remember forever, we couldn't help but be swept away by the gown Princess Sofia donned to marry Prince Carl Philip of Sweden on Saturday. Sofia's dress was a custom creation by Swedish designer Ida Sjöstedt and featured delicate lace sleeves and a cascading train. Sofia topped her beautiful look with a shimmering tiara that was a gift from King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. Read on to see her swoon-worthy look from every angle.

The stars strutted down the Tony Awards' red carpet on Sunday, including nominees who got an able assist from Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who a year ago proclaimed the annual event a fashion disaster in need of help.
No one look predominated. Hemlines and necklines varied. Colors ran the gamut from vivid reds, pinks and greens to neutral beige. Fabrics were alternately floral, solid or embossed, and there was a smattering of metallics.
"Heidi Chronicles" best actress nominee Elisabeth Moss chose a white, sleeveless Oscar de la Renta boldly embroidered with colorful flowers and vines in deep pink, yellow and green.
Patricia Clarkson, up for "The Elephant Man" opposite fellow nominee Bradley Cooper, also went sleeveless, in a black Alexander McQueen enlivened by huge deep red roses. "You look great!" enthused Wintour as they embraced.
On the red carpet outside Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall, bare shoulders trumped strapless looks, while the men mostly stuck to traditional tuxedos, some choosing a long tie over a bow tie.
Michael Cerveris, "Fun Home" nominee, sported an Armani tux but added his grandfather's tie bar.
For Broadway veteran Victoria Clark, nominated for a revival of "Gigi," the Wintour imprimatur was a godsend.
"I didn't have to worry about what to wear because I knew they were going to take care of it," said Clark, sporting a midnight blue gown with black lace top.
"Hand to God" best actor nominee Steven Boyer, wearing a Marc Jacobs tuxedo, cryptically observed, "There was a process" to being dressed and styled by Wintour and her minions.
Wintour, among the fashion world's most powerful and influential denizens, was brought in at the behest of Tony-winning costume designer and American Theater Wing head William Ivey Long, ostensibly to inject a bit of glamour to the annual Broadway event, which has traditionally been of more interest to theater fans than fashionistas.
The American Theater Wing is the creator of the Tonys.
The editor herself bucked the bare-shoulder trend in a dusty rose gown enlivened with sequins.
Newcomer Alexander Sharp, a favorite for best actor for the "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time," wore a cream-colored dinner jacket with plum-toned bow tie and dark trousers designed by Billy Reid.
"It's been fun to dress up - I'm not really used to all this," enthused the Broadway newcomer.
Helen Mirren, who won the best actress Tony for "The Audience," dazzled in a flowing, gauzy V-necked lace gown with an extra-long train, fitting given her role as Queen Elizabeth.

Keira Knightley, Kristen Wiig, Allison Williams, Kate Hudson, Olivia Wilde, Red Carpet Wedding Gowns
Keira Knightley, Kristen Wiig, Allison Williams, Kate Hudson, Olivia Wilde, Red Carpet Wedding Gowns

For some starlets, slipping into a white wedding dress isn't just something reserved for a trip down the aisle. And if you have your doubts, then look no further than Kristen Wiig, who wore an actual bridal gown by Delphine Manivet to the Golden Globes this year. And Keira Knightley loved her Chanel Haute Couture bridal frock so much that she recycled it for two separate red carpet occasions.
Kate Hudson's never met a romantic ivy number that she didn't just love (or look phenomenal wearing), but her glamorous Marchesa gown was even more bridal than ever. And while they too were nowhere near an aisle, Allison Williams and Olivia Wilde (in Dolce & Gabbana and Reem Acra, respectively) could've doubled as radiant brides-to-be.

These aren't the only ladies who've swapped wedding (or wedding-like) dresses for red carpet gowns—check out even more in the gallery below!

A-lists at amFAR showed off some front in trendy plunging frocksWENN
But it looks like the trend has evolved again with low-cut plunging tops showing off as much décolletage as possible being the 'in thing' this summer.
As always, the style is dictated by the trendy A-listers in the run-up to summer, with fans taking inspiration from the likes of Irina Shayk and Leonardo DiCaprio's rumoured girlfriend Toni Garrn.
And true to form the pair arrived at amfAR's Cinema Against Aids Gala - held at swanky Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, near Cannes - in eye-wateringly low-cut dresses.
Eva Longoria began the trend on the red carpet last night in a mint dressWENN
Lily Donaldson and Izabel Goulart followed suit in these front-showing frocksWENN
Newly-single Irina, who is thought to be dating Bradley Cooper after ditching Cristiano Ronaldo last year, certainly courted attention in her breast enhancing dress.
Supermodel Chanel Iman followed suit in a floor-length silver dress cut down to just millimetres above her bellybutton.
British beauty Lily Donaldson went for a simple yet mightily effective black frock with silver diamante edging cut very close to her chest.
Leonardo DiCaprio's rumoured girlfriend Toni Garrn looked incredibleWENN
Chanel Iman wowed in a plunging dress with an eye-watering necklineWENN
Does this red carpet influx of plunging dresses and very dangerous necklines mean the era of Kardashian bum-skimming hemlines is in the past?
Is the rise of the 1960s mini skirt set to dive-bomb in favour of a more conservative length skirt? It would seem the A-list are in favour of this motion.
What's on the red carpet is usually reflected in the high street and you can bet your bottom dollar Topshop, River Island and the like will be snipping inches off their necklines in preparation for the summer.
